Depois da bem-sucedida campanha na internet no ano passado [1], celebrando a diversidade linguística on-line da Ásia, o projeto colaborativo continua em 2020. Toda semana, um ativista linguístico diferente vai administrar a conta de Twitter @AsiaLangsOnline [2], para divulgar suas experiências, boas práticas e lições aprendidas sobre o trabalho de revitalização e promoção do uso de suas línguas nativas, com foco no papel da internet. Essa campanha é uma colaboração entre a Rising Voices [3], a Digital Empowerment Foundation [4], e a O Foundation [5].

Rising Voices (RV): Poderia falar sobre você?
Nabil Berri (NB): Hello, my name is Nabil. I live in Banda Aceh, Aceh province, Indonesia. I studied medicine at Syiah Kuala University in Banda Aceh, the provincial capital. Even though my university major is not related to linguistics, I am really interested in the Acehnese language [7]. My language activism started in early 2008 when I initiated Acehnese Wikipedia [8] with Teungku Hasmahdi, Fadli Idris and Andri Humardhani. At that time, I was concerned with the condition of the Acehnese language, which has limited written literature in prose form. Historically, most Acehnese literature consists of poetry.
Currently, I and some other Acehnese language enthusiasts are working on some other projects such as the revival of the Acehnese Jawi script [9], an online dictionary and localization efforts led by Mozilla. I also administer an Acehnese language learning website called Bahasa Aceh [10].
Beside these activities, I have contributed to Wikitongues by recording some vernacular languages of Indonesia.
Nabil Berri (NB): Olá, meu nome é Nabil. Moro em Banda Achém [11], na província de Achém, na Indonésia. Estudei medicina na Universidade Syiah Kuala em Banda Achém, que é a capital da província. Ainda que minha formação não tenha relação com a linguística, me interesso muito pela língua achém [12]. Meu ativismo linguístico iniciou-se em 2008, quando criei a Wikipédia em achém [8] juntamente com Teungku Hasmahdi, Fadli Idris e Andri Humardhani. Naquela época eu estava preocupado com a condição do achém, que possui pouca literatura em prosa. Historicamente, a maior parte da literatura achém consiste em poesias.
Atualmente, eu e alguns entusiastas do achém trabalhamos em outros projetos como a restauração da escrita jawi [13] do achém, um dicionário on-line e esforços de tradução pelo Mozilla. Também administro um site de ensino do achém, chamado Bahasa Aceh [10].
Além dessas atividades, eu já contribuí com o Wikitongues, gravando algumas línguas nativas da Indonésia.
RV: Qual é a situação atual do seu idioma na internet e fora dela?
NB: Although Aceh province [14] has a special autonomous status in Indonesia, unfortunately Acehnese language has no official status. Like many other vernacular languages in Indonesia, Acehnese is only learnt by students in elementary and junior high school.
There is also a dearth of publications in Acehnese language. For instance, no newspapers or magazines are published in Acehnese. But fortunately, thanks to the internet, we have some online media for Acehnese language. The first significant achievement is the approval of Acehnese Wikipedia [15] by the Wikimedia Foundation in 2009.
In the broadcasting domain, there is only one radio station (Meugah FM) that uses Acehnese. Indonesian State Radio (RRI) also has a section for Acehnese language news. As for local televison stations, Aceh TV has some news programs and morning talk shows (Kupi Beungoh) conducted in Acehnese, thus promoting the use of the language.
NB: Ainda que a província de Achém [16] possua um status especial de autonomia na Indonésia, infelizmente o achém não é uma língua oficial. Como muitas outras línguas nativas na Indonésia, o achém é ensinado apenas no Ensino Fundamental e Médio.
Existem poucas publicações em achém. Nenhum jornal ou revista é publicado em achém, mas felizmente, graças à internet, existem alguns materiais on-line. A primeira conquista significativa foi a aprovação da Wikipédia em achém pela Fundação Wikimedia em 2009.
No campo do rádio, existe apenas uma estação (Meugah FM) que transmite em achém. A Rádio Estatal da Indonésia (RRI) também possui uma seção de notícia em achém. Com relação a televisões locais, a Achém TV transmite alguns noticiários e programas matinais de entrevistas (Kupi Beungoh) na língua achém, promovendo assim a utilização da língua.
RV: Quais assuntos você pretende abordar durante a sua semana como administrador da conta do Twitter @AsiaLangsOnline?
NB: Acehnese language has a long history since it was first written in the 17th century. Its history, literature, development and its current status both online and offline are among many things that I want to share with Rising Voices.
NB: A língua achém tem uma longa história desde o primeiro registro escrito no século 17. Sua história, literatura, desenvolvimento e estado atual na internet e fora dela, são alguns dos assuntos que eu pretendo divulgar na Rising Voices.
RV: Quais são as suas motivações principais para o ativismo digital sobre sua língua? Quais são suas esperanças e sonhos para a sua língua?
NB: My main motivation is to upgrade the status of Acehnese language from an oral language to a written language. There is very little Acehnese literature in prose until the early 20th century and until now prose books in the language remain few and far between.
The existence of Acehnese in the digital world will increase its prestige among the speakers and encourage Acehnese people to be proud of their native language.
My dream for the future is for Acehnese to be granted official status in Aceh province. With this status, Acehnese would be used extensively in all domains. For example, all official documents would have to be written in Acehnese alongside Indonesian. Acehnese language would be used as a medium of instruction at all education levels from Kindergarten to university. This would promote scholars’ use of Acehnese in their books concerning all kinds of knowledge, including science.
NB: Minha motivação principal é a mudança de status da língua achém, de língua oral para língua escrita. Existe muito pouca literatura em prosa até o início do século 20 e mesmo agora livros em prosa são poucos e publicados entre grandes intervalos de tempo.
A existência do achém no mundo digital vai aumentar seu prestígio entre os falantes e encorajar o povo achém a sentir orgulho se sua língua nativa.
Meu sonho para o futuro é que o achém seja oficializado na província de Achém. Com esse status, o achém seria utilizado em todos os campos. Por exemplo, todos os documentos oficiais seriam escritos em achém e em indonésio. A achém seria utilizado como língua de instrução em todos os níveis educacionais, da educação infantil à universidade. Isso estimularia pesquisadores a escrever em achém, sobre todos os ramos do conhecimento, incluindo a ciência.
